OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Head of office in coordination with the Regional Security Officer , the Local Security Assistant assists in the implementation of security operations and all matters relating to safety and security for UNESCO personnel in Beirut regional office. 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Liasing and coordinating with the local government security organisations;
2. Assist om maintaining the Security Plan, including updating staff lists;
3. Support with the checking and following up on the implementation of the Security Risk Management measures at the duty station;
4. Assessing the security situation at the duty station; and provide update to UNESCO head of office in coordination with the regional security officer;
5. Assist on identifying Emergency Communications equipment needs (MISTS);
6. Conducting security evaluations and providing advice on security measures for the residences of UNESCO staff and UNESCO offices;
7. Assist on organising training courses on security issues/awareness and preparedness;
8. Supports actions during the implementation of the Security Plan, as required;
9. Maintain routine and confidential correspondence files/documents;
10. Following up on access control of UNESCO offices, in the area of operation;
11. Supporting flied missions as required;
12. Maintains a database of all security incidents and completes reports as required;
13. Assist in conducting security & safety related investigations, in coordination with the regional security officer;
14. Assist on Responding to emergencies/crises that may involve UNESCO operations, staff and assets;
15. Keep records of the issuance and return of UNESCO ID cards;
16. Other security tasks assigned.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidates must be Lebanese nationals or hold a valid work permit in Lebanon at the time of application.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years' experience in security, preferably in the military or police context or related field of work. 

Languages: Fluency in Arabic and English is required.

Skills and competencies :

• Knowledge VHF radio operation.
• Knowledge of host country safety codes.
• Solid computers skills (MS Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).
• Possession of a valid driver's license and able to drive a 4x4.
• Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is an asset.
• Experience in diplomatic security or protection is considered an asset.
