1. Basic Functions:

Oversees all processes related to institutional accreditation and quality assurance with external commissions and agencies, including the Middle State Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), the New York State Education Department (NYSED), the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) in Lebanon, and other relevant bodies.  

Serves as the Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) with MSCHE, and manages processes and activities related to institutional accreditation; monitors ongoing compliance with the Standards of Accreditation and Requirements of Affiliation; and coordinates institutional assessment, self-study preparation, and quality enhancement planning in alignment with MSCHE guidelines. 

Provides leadership and coordination for academic quality assurance activities with external accreditation, regulatory, and registration agencies. Offers guidance to internal units to ensure institutional alignment with academic quality assurance frameworks, and supports faculties/schools in matters related to their own accreditation activities or registration efforts.   

Engages and coordinates with internal units (faculties/schools, academic support units, administrative support units) on matters related to accreditation and quality assurance, with special focus on evidence-based assessment and continuous improvement processes.  

Ensures that accreditation and quality assurance obligations are met across all instructional sites and modalities operating under AUB's institutional accreditation, including branch campuses, additional locations, and distance education offerings. Coordinates with and supports colleagues who hold accreditation or regulatory responsibilities at specific sites or within particular modalities to ensure consistency with institutional standards and MSCHE expectations.

Supports the development of information systems and data dashboards in the areas of institutional accreditation and quality assurance; maintains related institutional records; and contributes to the development and revisions of relevant and related policies, procedures as well as guidelines. Participates in the preparation of major university reports, communications materials, and capacity-building activities related to accreditation and quality assurance. 

Reporting to the Provost, the Director leads or supports strategic academic initiatives related to institutional quality assurance and performs additional projects that enhance accreditation compliance and continuous improvement across the institution.

Minimum Requirements:

• Master's degree is required. 
• At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in institutional accreditation, academic quality assurance, institutional effectiveness, academic administration, or a closely related field, preferably within a higher education setting; experience leading or supporting institutional self-study processes or accreditation cycles with MSCHE or another accreditor is an asset.
• Strong project management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage complex, multi-unit processes involving diverse academic and administrative stakeholders.
• Demonstrated research and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret accreditation standards, analyze assessment findings, and use institutional data to support continuous improvement.
• Ability to work independently as a motivated self-starter, exercising sound judgment, discretion, and a high degree of professional and personal integrity.
• Excellent interpersonal, presentation, organization, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across faculties/schools, academic support units, and administrative support units.
• Demonstrated competence with commonly used word-processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software packages; experience with assessment or quality assurance systems is an advantage.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English is required; knowledge of Arabic and/or French is desirable.
