Transportation Dispatcher

Qualified applicant must have minimum of high school or general equivalency diploma (GED).  One (1) to three (3) years of general office experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job is required.

Excellent oratory and written communication skills, excellent organizational, analytical and time management skills are required.

Must have a valid Tennessee CDL Class B with "P" and "S" endorsments.  Will train if necessary.

Other preferred skills are as follows:

• Effectively communicate with the public, school system employees, school administrators, and all pupil transportation personnel;
• Computer literacy skills are essential with concentration in Microsoft Word, Excel, Routing programs, GPS technologies and fleet management software;
• Able to operate communications systems (i.e. 2-way radio) and work under pressure while multi-tasking;
• Working knowledge of student transportation rules and regulations; and 
• Strong commitment to safety and must exhibit proficiency with respect to local, state, and federal regulations applicable to pupil transportation. 

The successful candidate will manage the whereabouts of the entire school bus fleet during normal business hours and, in the event of emergencies, will effectively communicate with local, state, and federal emergency management agencies to ensure that our students, drivers, and the general public are safe. Must be able to deal with many constituencies and work well under pressure. Other duties may be assigned by Transportation Supervisor.

This is a 12-month assignment with insurance and retirement benefits.  Pay will be determined by comparable work experience and placement on Grade 11 of the Hourly Classified Salary Schedule.
