Purpose of Job:
Responsible for providing diagnostic and intervention services for students with speech, language, and hearing disorders to help students adjust to and access educational curriculum.
Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned as needed.
General Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Assess, screen, and evaluate students and effectively share results with parents and educational staff, and participate in the eligibility determination process in accordance with state and school division requirements and best practice Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with Speech/Language impairment and assist with IEPs for students with speech/language as a related service on an annual basis or according to requirements Comply with all Medicaid requirements for school-based claiming, including obtaining written Medicaid consent from parents of all students served and timely filing of claims that meet Medicaid standards as per district proceduresDemonstrate knowledge of child growth and development and individual student needs by providing relevant instruction according to the IEP and educational best practices Provide consultative services for school staff by sharing and demonstrating specific techniques and working with school teams to facilitate relevant and consistent interventions for targeted students Maintain records and information concerning individual students in the prescribed confidential manner and using the records and information only for the purposes for which they are maintained according to FERPA guidelines Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community for the purpose of fostering individual student success and growth while engaging the families in the therapy program Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships with administrative and school staff Participate in various meetings for the purpose of addressing student goals and needs, and to meet laws and policies Maintain and submit information/records including student progress for all students Implement and comply with District policies and procedures Perform related duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with schooldistrict policies and procedures
Knowledge of and skills in using effective instructional strategies and practicesKnowledge of and skills in best practice instruction specific to various disabilities Skills in managing and promoting positive student behaviorSkills in data analysis to assess, monitor, and inform instruction for student growthSkills and abilities in organization, time management, and record keeping Ability to operate a computer and the skills to learn and utilize software and other technology in instructionLead or assist in the use of AAC systems for students who need communication support. Provide training on the use of AAC systems and on-going programming of students AAC systemAbility to interact positively and effectively with parents, students, staff, and administratorsResponsible for reporting any reasonable suspicions related to a child's health or welfare as a result of abuse or neglect to the appropriate state/community agency, as well as the principalAbide by the Tennessee Teacher Code of EthicsParticipate in appropriate and required staff development sessions at the school and/or system levelFollow the appropriate complaint/grievance process: report concern to the principal first, next to the Complaint Officer for the system, the Director of Schools, and finally to the BoardReport all accidents/injuries on the required form to the principal in a timely mannerProperly supervise studentsMaintain a clean, orderly, safe classroomAdminister appropriate assessments, record scores on cumulate records, interpret test scores as needed, and analyze assessment data in an effort to improve instruction and student learningMaintain proper classroom and school order that supports student learningEnsure that the use of the district's resources (time, money, people) are used in the most strategic and effective way possibleOther Duties and Responsibilities

Master's Degree held or working toward Master's with state waiverAll teachers shall be licensed in accordance with state law and the regulations of the Tennessee Department of Education. Such license shall be on file in the Director of School's Office prior to beginning employmentMaintain or obtain Health Board License for purposes of Medicaid billingIt is the responsibility of the employee to secure a certificate and to maintain its validity. When a teacher's contract must be terminated because the teachers' certificate has lapsed or otherwise becomes invalid, the Director of School shall immediately suspend the teacher without pay pending disposition of the matter. The teacher shall be notified of the reason for the suspension and given an opportunity for a hearing before the BoardAll teachers shall demonstrate competency based on the current job assignment and performance standards as outlined in the appropriate state model for local evaluationPossess or be working toward an ASHA Certificate of Clinical CompetenceExperience in structured teaching, assistive technology core language, and positive behavior supports preferredSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Principal or Director of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable
Abilities/Physical Requirements
Physical demand requirements may include lifting of students, positioning of students, assisting students with personal hygiene activities such as toileting, feeding and assisting with daily living activities.
